The 4 Phases of Migraines and the Symptoms of Each

the-4-phases-of-migraines-and-the-symptoms-of-each

Almost 39 million people from the United States of America suffer from migraines. In Washington alone, many patients are looking for Vancouver migraine relief. However, not everybody realizes that migraines are not just really severe headaches.

Migraines are a neurological condition that appears in four major phases. Let’s take a glimpse into each phase and see the symptoms that accompany each stage:

#1 Prodrome Phase

This phase comes on a few hours before the head pain starts. This stage can cause you to:

  • Feel irritable
  • Be thirsty
  • Yawn a lot
  • Feel fatigued
  • Have food cravings

#2 Aura Phase

Not everybody with migraines experiences going through this phase. Those that have an aura may feel:

  • Numbness and tingling
  • Visual changes – blind spots or flashes of light
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Weakness

#3 Attack Phase

This phase is when the head pain hits, which can last for a few hours or even a few days. You will most likely experience:

  • Throbbing and pounding head pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Sensitivity to sound, light, and certain odors

#4 Postdrome Phase

This stage is sometimes called the migraine hangover. The symptoms include:

  • Feeling drained or unwell for a day or so
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Sluggishness
  • Confusion

Where to Get Vancouver Migraine Relief

It’s an excellent idea to have your upper cervical spine evaluated by an upper cervical chiropractor when you experience migraine attacks.

Here at Balanced Living Chiropractic in Vancouver, Washington, we will examine your neck thoroughly to check if any misalignments are present. If there is one, it may be causing pressure on your brainstem. Such an event can lead to the start of migraines.

Our upper cervical chiropractors use an exact and gentle technique that encourages the misaligned bones to move back into proper alignment. Once corrected, the body starts to heal itself from the damage, so adequate transmission of signals to the brain becomes normal again. Thus, it would lead to a significant improvement or elimination of migraines
