Meniere’s disease is an inconvenient condition that can have multiple uncomfortable symptoms. The condition often develops due to excessive fluid in the ear – called hydrops – over a long course of time. However, hydrops is not always present when Meniere’s is diagnosed, which has caused researchers to take a closer look at the disease. Their search has revealed an interesting connection between a misalignment of the bones of the upper neck and Meniere’s disease.
An association was found between Meniere’s disease, trigeminal neuralgia, and whiplash after observing over a 5-year period 300 patients who suffered from symptoms of Meniere’s. Something important to consider is that when the neck sustains trauma, a lesion will sometimes form in the trigeminal ganglion or the eustachian tube. This could lead to negative effects on the ears and/or nerves of the face.
Sometimes it takes up to 15 years for this kind of lesion to take shape, which is why patients will many times forget to tell their doctor about the previous accident since the injury was so far in the past. Often, health conditions can get worse as time passes, which is why people are often diagnosed in middle age even though years have passed since the original accident.
The upright MRI can show if the C1 and C2 are no longer in their proper positions and if their misalignment is affecting cerebrospinal fluid levels. When this happens the cerebrospinal fluid flow can be impeded, causing build up within the brain and leading to intracranial pressure. It is imperative to take action on this because more severe problems can follow.
Here at Balanced Living, we are never forceful in our adjustments. We don’t need to pop or crack the spine. Instead we encourage correct alignment with a gentle, precise technique. This correction restores fluid flow from the brain as well as initiates the body’s natural healing abilities to repair any existing damage. Many of our patients have experienced a decrease in attacks of Meniere’s disease symptoms following treatment here with us. If this sounds like an option that would help you, come in for a complimentary consultation. We would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
