The Various Indications of Meniere's Disease

the-various-indications-of-menieres-diseaseMeniere's disease involves a series of symptoms that impact your ability to hear and balance.  People who suffer from Meniere's disease have too much fluid built up within the inner ear that results in a combination of effects, including the following:

  • Vertigo attacks
  • Tinnitus (buzzing or ringing in the ear)
  • Episodic hearing loss
  • A sensation of fullness in the affected ear

The recommended care options for Meniere's disease can vary quite a bit, from dietary modifications, like reducing salt intake in order to limit the fluid buildup in the ear, or the use of medications that are specifically for the symptoms.  To get a lasting solution from vertigo symptoms, it is imperative that the cause of the problem is tended to.

Meniere's Disease and the Link to the Spine

One way that many Meniere's sufferers have been able to get effective and lasting relief is through upper cervical chiropractic care.  This condition and the spine have multiple factors at work, such as the way that the body maintains balance by applying input from your sensory system. The vertebrae of the upper neck, the atlas and axis, are unique because they are the most freely moving bones in the whole spine. They also protect the brainstem. The brainstem is a vital part of the central nervous system, and any misalignment of these bones can result in disruptions in the messages relaying information about the body's movement and position.  This can alter your sense of balance and lead to other inner ear problems like tinnitus.

We take a thorough examination of our patients’ upper cervical alignment here at Balanced Living. We will do all that we can to identify whether it could be a contributing factor in your case of Meniere's disease.  If we find that these vertebrae are not aligned properly, it is highly likely that they could be what is behind your condition. We use an upper cervical adjusting technique called NUCCA, which is very gentle and precise. It provides a restoration of normal alignment without applying any great force.  This method allows the body a longer opportunity to repair any damage done from a misalignment. Because the root cause is being dealt with, it can not only alleviate Meniere’s symptoms but eliminate them altogether.
