Vancouver, WA Residents Are Finding Help for Migraines

Migraine, Migraines, Headache, Headaches, Head Pain, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Relief, Headache Relief, Tension Headache, Tension Headaches, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Headaches ReliefMigraines leave the sufferer feeling exhausted, frustrated, and living in fear of the next episode. These debilitating attacks affect as many as 38 million people in the US. In fact, 6% of men and 18% of women deal with this condition in America.

Migraine symptoms include:

  • Extreme head pain
  • Problems with hearing
  • Visual impairments
  • Nausea and vomiting

Finding solutions that work to care for migraines is exasperating for doctors and patients alike. Here are some common recommendations for coping with migraine pain:

  • If a person is having severe, persistent headaches, a prescription drug may be offered. Medications can include beta blockers, anti-seizure medications, or something similar. These often come with undesirable side effects.
  • A migraine journal is usually suggested. This can help a person see a pattern as to why their migraines are happening. Triggers—foods, beverages, weather conditions, stress—can often be identified and avoided leading to fewer migraines overall.
  • In some cases, over-the-counter medications are suggested such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). These are medications that have ibuprofen as their active ingredient.

Recently, CBS reported on a new method that is being used to help those suffering from migraines. Medical professionals and researchers have identified the neck and spine as the source of pain for some. A misalignment in this area can cause friction that irritates the nerves leading to a migraine. Anesthetic injections in the neck can give one relief for a few days. However, unless the root cause is addressed, a migraine will likely return.

Migraines Alleviated by Specific Chiropractic Care

Upper cervical chiropractic focuses on making sure the C1 and C2 vertebrae are in proper alignment. A misalignment here can be linked to migraine pain and a number of other health problems. By using a gentle technique that does not require popping or twisting, nerves and soft tissue can be relieved. It often only takes one or two adjustments to see improvement in migraine patients. Many see their migraines go away totally.
